Activities

Each season you’ll experience the Wever differently. On a winter day, you’ll curl up next to one of the numerous fireplaces with a book and a cup of tea. Or in the autumn, when you return from a visit to the Kröller-Müller Museum full of inspiration. And outside on summer nights when you enjoy the slow sunset together with friends.

Active

WALKING, CYCLING AND MOUNTAIN BIKING
From the terrace you step onto the heath for kilometres of walking or cycling. You can choose for marked routes but perhaps just as nice: discover the area on your own. Not possible to bring your own bike? Not a problem. We’ll arrange one for you as well as a map so you can explore the surroundings in whichever way you want.

TENNIS
Want to hit some balls? Tennis Association Otterlo is just a short walk from the Wever. Their three tennis courts are in the middle of the forest and as a guest of the lodge you’re welcome to play here or to take a lesson. We are happy to arrange this for you. www.tvotterlo.nl

GOLF
For golf fans we highly recommend The Links Valley in Ermelo. This golf club is quite unique – you can play the 9-hole course from two directions. One day you play the South Course clockwise. The next day you play the North Course which is the South Course in reverse. We can reserve a tee time for you on the course which has been named as one of the most beautiful 9-hole courses in the Netherlands. www.thelinksvalley.nl

YOGA
Silence, the feeling of unlimited space around you and the smell of the heath that tickles your nose. The Wever’s garden is a perfect place for yoga. Early in the morning, alone in peace to start your day. Would you like to have a yoga lesson? We are happy to arrange it.

BY HORSE
For those who would like to explore the Hoge Veluwe in a different way, a ride in a covered wagon is a unique experience we recommend for families with children. At Stalhouderij Wouter Hazeleger you can arrange a wagon or carriage ride, a usual pastime in the early days of the Wever. If you’re an experienced equestrian perhaps you’d rather discover the surroundings on horseback on your own. Let us know what you’re interested in and we’ll sort out the details. www.trouwkoetsen.com

At the Lodge

We have a love of nature and everything that has to do with handicraft. That is why we prefer to work with true craftsmen, people who understand their trade and practise it with love and conviction. Our contact with them inspires us and we want to share that with our guests. You can visit these extraordinary people in their workplaces and they’re often at the lodge. An inspiring experience, certainly for families with children.

THE SHEPHERD
They are inseparable, sheep herder Jeroen and his dogs Jelle en Joep. Together they cover many kilometres in guiding their sheep in treks across the Sallandse Heuvelrug or the Veluwe. There are few shepherds still active in the Netherlands and Jeroen happily takes you along on his rounds with his herd, telling you along the way about this old trade that he has been practising for years.

THE ARTIST
At the Wever we appreciate beautiful things that aren’t fussy. And that’s Luc. A classically-trained artist, he prefers to work with just a pencil. A number of Luc’s artworks can be admired in the lodge. In addition to his passion for art, this Fleming also admires theatre. He can be found regularly at the lodge, not only to work here and there on his own art but also to inspire you as a guest and help you find your own creativity.

THE SMITH
Another ancient trade, the forge. Smith Jan understands his trade like no other. With help from fire and the blowbag, he shapes iron into the most incredible creations such as the balustrade on the second story of the lodge. Jan regularly visits the Wever but you can also visit him at his forge. He will happily demonstrate how he works and what he can make from melted iron.

THE ART HISTORIAN
Thanks to her knowledge and gift for storytelling, art historian Angeline brings old tales and hidden gems to life. She is the guide of choice to take you through the Kröller-Müller Museum.

THE WOOD WORKER
Martijn grew up among the trees. As a young boy you could find him in the woods and that is still the case today. He prefers to pick out the wood himself for the furniture he makes. A wood wizard, he transforms this natural product into handcrafted masterpieces in his quirky workshop. He is responsible for a large part of the interior design of the lodge, from the beautiful bar to the closets and cabinetry in the bathrooms.

THE MILLER
In his sawmill in Harskamp, Jan saws tree trunks so they are ready for further use. His mill has produced thousands of small slats and rough beams. Jan uses different types of wood but prefers to work with Douglas fir. The large logs used to create the multiple levels of the Wever’s terrace are from Jan.
